Menchita knows that every surface she cleans and disinfects plays a part in keeping patients safe. And recently, she and her colleagues had a result worth celebrating.

“During a recent dust measurement on the ward, there was simply no dust to measure. This great success made me and my colleagues feel really proud.”

For Menchita, 52, an ISS Service Assistant at Hvidovre Hospital, cleaning is about much more than spotless surfaces. Working in the intensive care unit, she helps prevent the spread of infection among some of the most critically ill patients in the hospital.

“A clean environment helps patients recover more quickly, and as part of the cleaning team, I help prevent them from getting sicker.”

“It’s not just about keeping the hospital clean. It’s about protecting patients and helping them have a speedy recovery.”

Working as a team to help patients recover

Working in intensive care can be demanding, and teamwork is essential to respond quickly to patients’ changing needs.

“It can be a stressful place to work, but we have a great team. We look after each other, especially on those difficult days. Knowing I can count on my colleagues and the nurses makes the difference.”

Colleagues know Menchita for her proactivity and positive spirit, and that she cares as much about the people on the ward as about the work itself.

“I like to interact with the patients at the hospital. I always say good morning and ask them and their families how they’re doing. I’m also always ready to help my colleagues and the nurses with whatever they need.”

Her dedication to delivering the best service every single day is highly valued and recognised by the nursing staff working at the hospital.

“Menchita and her colleagues make a big difference to the hospital. They are the first to ensure that patient safety is complied with. Hygiene is the foundation of everything. Treatment or operations cannot be carried out without them.” says Pia Kofoed Gregersen, medical coordinator at Hvidovre Hospital.

Behind every patient fighting for their life is a team of dedicated professionals doing everything they can to help them recover. Cleaners like Menchita work tirelessly to protect patients from infections and keep them safe, giving them the best possible chance to recover and return home to their loved ones.
