How Claire’s ISS career has taken her across borders – and into new roles

At ISS, people can develop their careers across professions and borders. Claire Declercq’s journey has taken her from serving as an ISS receptionist in Switzerland to becoming IFS Excellence Director in France.

At ISS, we invest in helping our people reach their full potential – whether that’s developing their skills through training or finding new roles tailored to an employee’s specific interests or skillset. For Claire, joining ISS set her on an ambitious career path she could never have expected, but most certainly does not regret.

We caught up with Claire to discuss the secret to her success and her thoughts on what makes being a manager at ISS a unique experience.

Space to learn and grow

“I like to think my story can serve as a source of inspiration for many people,” says Claire. “Back in 2011, I joined ISS as a receptionist, working for one of our customers in Geneva. A few years later, our customer signed a full Integrated Facility Services (IFS) contract, and soon after, I was promoted to Operational Assistant, and then again to Soft Services Manager.”

After seven years working for ISS in Switzerland, Claire decided it was time to move back to her homeland, France.

“ISS was extremely supportive and took responsibility coordinating my move to join the team in France, where I was offered the position of Project Manager in the IFS Excellence Team. I spent a couple of years in the role, and then last year a new opportunity arose as IFS Excellence Director – and that’s where I am today,” Claire explains.

Alongside her current role, Claire works as a trainer for our flagship learning and development programme, Service with a Human Touch, where she educates our staff on what it means to provide great service, offering them the motivation and the capability to be top-quality service professionals.

“As a programme trainer, part of my job is giving meaning to the work we do at ISS every day – and that is hugely rewarding.”

A global family

With a breadth of experience in many different roles across the organisation, Claire has relished the opportunity to now manage a team at ISS France, and has learned to take the challenges in her stride.

“Being a manager at ISS means meeting new people every day, and being surrounded by a range of different cultures and customers. It’s a constant learning opportunity. Every day we must adapt our way of thinking and acting to cater to new challenges or situations.”

To Claire, ISS more than just a great place to work; it’s a family.

“ISS is my second family. I’m proud to work here because it’s a human company with great values and even better people. With ten exceptional years here, I’m living proof that those who are engaged, curious and willing to learn can work their way up the ranks and achieve their goals.”
