The importance of safety in the Banking and Professional Services sector

Interview with Dr. Mark Forret, Global Head of Banking and Professional Services - Global Operations, ISS A/S.

Mark Forret - Safety in banking
What are the most critical safety threats in the Banking and Professional Services industries today?

Large commercial spaces present hazards every day, and everywhere, to occupiers and their guests alike. Whether it is in preventing slips, trips & falls or adjusting appropriate lighting levels, providing a safe environment is critical. ISS maintains these built environments across multiple locations and diverse geographies to comply with all statutory regulations through a hierarchy of controls addressing health and safety risks and environmental regulations.

Ensuring safety is not limited to just the built environment. ISS identified a key area that required greater investment after our own organisation’s malware attack occurred. Nearly every organisation is grappling with this same concern. With the introduction of our GITDS functionality, we can talk to client IT Security Leads in the same language when it comes to IT Security. This, together with our global policy and framework, allows ISS to understand current and emerging risks data management risks, and we are able to support our clients from first principles to the development of strategies to anticipate and manage these.

How is ISS supporting our financial services clients to enhance their safety?

ISS ensures optimal functionality, comfort, safety and efficiency by integrating people, places, processes and technology — with the employee experience at the centre to enhance business performance without compromising safety, quality or compliance.

We support our clients’ safety objectives through several different ways:

Clear Operational Process Framework to drive a consistent approach, measure performance and manage safety management efforts across our clients’ locations.

Continuous investment in Training & Development for all frontline placemakers so they become the ‘safety eyes and ears’ across each client’s sites. An emphasis on near miss reporting and hazard controls provides a first line of detection and assurance.

ISS’ EHS Velocity safety platform which captures all safety measures and incidents at a site, country, regional and global level. This allows ISS to produce Root Cause Assessments, identify trends and introduce impactful controls to measure, mitigate and manage risk.

Sustainable processes and products, and energy and sustainability awareness programmes to reduce the environmental impact of our operations.
