Outsourcing

The global market for outsourced Facility Services is growing. A market best defined by hyper-competition and increased market complexity.
As companies are looking for ways to reduce the vulnerability that comes with the more dramatic fluctuations in global economy, it is almost becoming a business imperative to maintain high levels of agility, business flexibility and organizational ability to be innovative and explorative.

In this environment, outsourcing is no longer seen as a concept that can help companies to maintain current non-core activities and make these more efficient. Instead, the main driver of outsourcing is to innovate and develop better processes with increased focus on core competencies and market differentiation.

The nature of outsourcing relationships and contracts is polarizing as well. On the one hand, relationships are changing to enable more long-lasting and strategic partnerships. On the other hand, some outsourcing relationships are becoming more episodic and consumption-based.

In more sophisticated arrangements, Facility Management providers play a greater role in fulfilling the strategic objectives of their customers, with contracts serving as a framework for the relationship. In more consumption-based contracts, client organizations will only pay for what is used.
Societal and business related megatrends will shape the future of outsourcing in the following ways:
  • Outsourcing will be used as a strategic tool to leverage globally dispersed resources
  • Outsourcing will be applied to enhance organisational agility and efficiency
  • Outsourcing will be a tool for faster and more innovative value creation

At ISS, we are experiencing these developments at first hand and believe it is our responsibility to both act on the new paradigms of outsourcing, and the emerging business realities of our clients.  This enables us to always find the outsourcing approach that best suits need needs of our client organizations and maximizes their operational value.
