Following the success of the first virtual iFM Workplaces Futures conference in February this year, iFM hosted an industry-wide discussion in July with over 800 attendees to talk about the Return to the Workplace.

To complement the theme, four workplace experts from ISS hosted a breakout session to discuss “Innovation for a progressive workplace”, exploring ideas and innovations which organisations could use to create workplaces of tomorrow and meet their building users’ evolving needs.

With the Covid-19 pandemic accelerating the shift in how we work, it has also presented opportunities for organisations to redefine their workplace strategy and re-engage their workforce. ISS has been working with customers across the globe to evolve and implement new strategies, introduce better ways of working and pilot and implement the latest workplace concepts, technologies and innovations.

The Panellists

Francisco Ruiz, Managing Director – Workplace, ISS UK & Ireland, talked about the effect the last 18 months has had on workplace strategy and what organisations are doing differently as they reopen their workplaces or invite more employees back to the office.

Will Richards, Head of Workplace Experience, ISS UK, highlighted the importance for service partners working together with their clients to understand and evolve the workplace solution for their employees in order to attract and retain talent and offer an engaging and productive workplace experience.

Morag Glover, Head of Workplace Management, Client Account, discussed the impact that a sense of belonging and collaboration has on the creation of a positive workplace culture. Observing how FM companies and the services we provide can be the catalyst and the central coordination point to enable the curation of an effective workplace experience.

Ian Traxler, Curated Experience Director, Client Account, reflected on the significance of giving building users confidence in the hygiene of their workplace by introducing innovative cleaning solutions like ISS PURE SPACE hygiene offering.

The event, which was hosted by Martin Pickard, Chair of i-FM and FM Guru and ended with a great summary by Lucy Jeynes, Managing Director at Larch Consulting, who concluded that FM and organisations need to acknowledge and expand their workplace offering beyond ‘the office’, agreeing that FM contracting models must change if they are to meet the increasing need for people focused services that also deliver social value.
