Project Ceres takes the Best Waste Management Project Award!

Last month a key professional services client picked up the Waste2Zero award for Best Waste Management Project (Non-Food) for its single-use catering plastics reduction strategy which saves 7.7 million items of plastic a year
The good and the great of the food services waste prevention and management industries were celebrated at the 2018 Waste2Zero Awards dinner which took place at the In & Out Club in London’s St. James's Square in October. Now in its second year, the objective of Waste2Zero - the first awards of its kind in the sector - is to specifically provide a platform to showcase best practice and recognise excellence in this vital area.

Both the client’s purpose and environmental policy and ISS’ ThinkForward@ISS Sustainable Service Performance pillar have significant focuses on reducing our environmental impact, and feedback from client employees during 2017 indicated that single-use plastics were their greatest environmental concern and the area they most wanted to see action taken in to reduce consumption within the firm. These influences led to the creation of ‘Project Ceres’ which comprises key stakeholders from both the client and ISS to drive forward this specific agenda - reducing single-use plastics in 2018.

Project Ceres ultimately aimed to eliminate single-use plastics from catering and vending services in the client’s UK offices by the end of 2018. This includes catering consumables (cutlery, takeaway food packaging etc.) in site restaurants and coffee shops, which was achieved through the introduction of Vegware compostable disposables, plus removal of all single use disposable drink cups from vending machines, kitchenettes and tea/water points through the roll out of reusable Keep Cups and water bottles for each individual employee across the UK business.

waste2zero-winner-200As the winner of the Best Waste Management Project category and runner up in the Best Waste Prevention Project category, ISS has worked with our client all year to build their business case, order stock, design campaign communications and run the launch of the projects. The ISS team has been involved at all levels, especially the Food Services and Workplace teams. Congratulations to everyone involved for such a great plaudit and demonstrating our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment!
