Supplier Roundtable event facilitates interesting debate
On 13th June, ISS hosted a Supplier Roundtable event at its Velocity headquarters in Weybridge, Surrey
The evening event, the first of its kind, facilitated discussions over a delicious three course dinner on the topics of Brexit, innovation and sustainability, and the impact of these on the Facilities Management environment.
The objective of the well-attended event was to encourage discussions around mutual topics affecting all of our businesses whilst introducing and connecting professionals with different background and opinions - resulting in a melting pot of ideas and views. The lively discussions and debate contained diverse opinions and views, with the attendees working together to disrupt the norm and share ideas in areas such as health and safety, sustainability, building our knowledge and discussing smarter ways of working. Ultimately, working closely with our suppliers enables ISS to add value and bring innovation to our customers.
Summarising the key discussions at the end of the event, the table facilitators highlighted a few points from each of the three group discussions that had taken place on their table. With detailed discussions on a variety of topics, one recurring theme throughout the evening was that of plastics; a big concern and very topical at the moment, especially with the David Attenborough TV series, where universally it was agreed that it is the responsibility of everyone to consider their impact and start making a real difference on our usage.
Similarly, ISS initiatives such as the Zero Waste Challenge that took part on World Environment Day on 5th June, saw 15,958 ISS employees globally committing to making changes to reduce the waste they produced on that day. Their actions saved approximately 79,790 items from becoming waste! The discussions on plastic concluded that educating children from a young age about the damage plastics can do to the environment is essential in order to safeguard our future generations. In turn, these children can then go home at the end of a school day and educate and influence their parents into making better purchasing and recycling decisions.
Over the course of the evening, the ISS Support Services and Food Services teams attended to the 40 strong delegation exceptionally, from the welcome reception drinks to the fine dining menu - congratulations and thanks to all involved.
Feedback from the event was very positive, with many comments around the lively and interesting debates that took place on each topic and the fascinating showcase of ISS’ head office and the workplace technologies that we utilise. In addition, the attendees conveyed that they had enjoyed the opportunity to meet and network with like-minded professionals in the industry.
