ISS co-hosts BIFM International Special Interest Group event on Excellence in Transition Management

Around 50 FM professionals joined together this week for the BIFM International Special Interest Group event to discuss Transition and Change Management – the subject of ISS’ latest whitepaper
The whitepaper, named Excellence in Transition Management – the foundation for a successful outsourcing partnership explores the key elements needed for a successful transition process in outsourcing.

The location of the event was impressive; Telefonica Digital’s Air Street offices in central London was an eclectic mix of ‘young meets old’ with the traditional façade contrasting with the modern, funky interiors. The audience were seated in comfortable purple and green armchairs, located right next to the beanbag meeting space.

graph-464IFM ISIG treasurer, Paul Phillips, opened the event to introduce Claire Harman, Head of Group Transition from ISS. Having led one of ISS’ most successful global accounts for six years, Claire has worked in operational FM for over 15 years. Originally starting life as a Quantity Surveyor, Claire is now the global lead for ISS, responsible for the mobilisation and transformation of new contracts and currently managing two global customer transitions.

Talking through the evolution of clients’ needs and business objectives in a mature outsourcing market, Claire highlighted needs such as cost saving, improving competitiveness, improved demand management and the need for an open and genuine partnership.

Stakes are high so it is increasingly important that partnerships get off on the right foot from the outset with a structured and robust change programme. Further discussion points included the importance of stakeholder analysis and communication, Prosci’s ADKAR model for change management and the governance and consistency surrounding effective programmes and the all important area of communications.

The discussion concluded with a Q&A session which included ‘the golden nuggets of a successful transition‘ followed by networking with the Group.
