ISS achieves the Workplace Wellbeing Charter for Liverpool Healthcare Clients

In a first for ISS, Royal Liverpool University Hospital & Broadgreen and the Walton Centre have all received the Workplace Wellbeing Charter - the accreditation from the Workplace Wellbeing Charter to demonstrate the commitment by an organisation to improving the lives of those who work there
The eight key areas of the Charter are: Leadership; Absence Management; Health and Safety; Mental Health and Wellbeing; Smoking; Physical Activity; Healthy Eating and; Alcohol and Substance Misuse.

Working with the Health Work Centre organisation, who independently assess and verify the company’s standards and approach in each of these areas and the commitment and support offered to our employees, Esther Newton from the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) team provided invaluable support. Esther worked with the sites management teams and the adjudicators putting together the submission with additional input from Joel Crompton, Quality Manager.

Throughout the process, evidence was examined with the ISS Healthcare Divisional Director Donna Brown, alongside General Managers Danny Doyle and Jamie Gibney who demonstrated their commitment to their teams wellbeing. This included their follow up action plan and employee development programme which were part of the annual ISS People Survey to assess areas of potential improvement across relevant areas. Health & Safety and wellbeing was also shown to be at the top of their agenda with the approach to health and safety being ranked as ‘Excellent’.

Over sixty employees across the three sites were interviewed by the Health Work Centre team to find out how they personally viewed their wellbeing and the support and encouragement they were provided with by ISS. The team also worked to the ISS Annual People Survey to check progress of the follow-up action plan and employee development programme.

With support from the wider HSEQ, Communications and CR community across the organisation, the ISS World Safety Day 2018 celebrated on 27th April, saw a number of activities focused on the lead up to and the launch of the new ISS Wellbeing Policy, providing an ongoing commitment to this incredibly important area for everyone who works for ISS.
