ISS wins Waste Management award at national NHS Awards 2018
ISS, in partnership with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, achieved the ‘Highly Commended’ accolade for its Waste Management project at the 2018 NHS Sustainability Awards. The programme provided tangible, positive results, reducing waste disposal costs by 25% and increasing domestic waste recycling from 0% to 37% within the first three months
The NHS Sustainability Awards, announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday 17th May, celebrate healthcare efficiency and sustainable development in a year that has presented many challenges arising from financial cut backs to the NHS.
The ISS Excellence in Healthcare Waste Management programme provided a multi-strand strategic approach to provide long-term impact. The project focussed on reducing waste and improving recycling, whilst motivating and promoting cultural change in attitudes toward waste management overall.
Discussing the winners, NHS Sustainability Day Campaign Manager, Scott Buckler said: “The awards are now in their fifth year and I am continually impressed and surprised at how much leadership exists within the NHS. All our nominees, highly commended and winners have proven that sustainability is a key driver in ensuring we have an NHS fit for the future.”
Ian Baxter, Managing Director, ISS Waste Management commented, “The rapid progress seen demonstrates the strong partnership we at ISS have built with our NHS Trust partner to motivate change whilst supporting the delivery of excellent patient care. I’m very proud of the innovation and progress created by our waste management team which goes beyond waste management to play a central part in our Corporate Responsibility strategy called ThinkForward@ISS to work toward a better future.”
