ISS comments on the TUC Report "What lessons can we learn from Carillion?"
ISS UK welcomes a number of the recommendations made by the TUC relating to the reforms needed to the outsourcing of public services, in the United Kingdom, following the collapse of Carillion.
As a full member of the BSA (Business Services Association), ISS supported their report earlier this year that highlighted similar findings, namely:
Commissioning and procurement should be seen more as a partnering
relationship, including the interests of stakeholders at every level
Contracts should be awarded on performance and quality rather than
the lowest price with full transparency of the decision making. There
should be equal transparency whether the service is delivered by a
contractor, or an in-house provider
Any contract should be awarded with the public interest as the first
consideration.
Matthew Brabin, Chief Executive Officer, ISS UK & Ireland, said:
“At ISS we believe that there is much to agree on in the TUC report. The collapse of Carillion highlighted the challenging climate for businesses and the importance of staying attuned to customers to deliver real value in tough market conditions. The subsequent findings have demonstrated the need for strong governance and transparency at every level. Such strong governance is already in place within a number of major providers, including ISS, and that the private sector still has a particularly important role to play in the provision of essential services.”
