PEOPLE

A passion for people

From sales in cleaning to country manager, Gina Toh has been part of the ISS Singapore growth story since joining in 2001. She exemplifies the type of career journey our people can have, taking her from roles in operations and commercial to top leadership.

A champion for integrated facility services

“I love engaging with people and communicating with customers. Personal drive is important and I take up challenges quite quickly and easily. Change may not be a bad thing, and it is something I constantly keep an open mind about,” she says.

Gina spent her first four years with ISS in sales in the cleaning division, where she built on her previous professional experience with property management.

Gina was brought in to integrate new businesses i.e. food services into ISS, which was an entirely new experience in a new language and with a new business approach. She worked on a bid for integrated facility services (IFS) and then became involved in managing IFS accounts.

“I want the business to grow and ISS Singapore to be recognised as the key IFS provider. Personally, I want to develop and build more talents within the organisation, with a succession plan for key roles in the organisation,” Gina says.

“The organisation has breadth and tremendous opportunities, and my country manager actively helped me develop and invested in me.”

Motivated by people who care

With her breadth of experience and many contacts across the organisation, Gina thrives on the strong people-oriented culture. “I know people in the organisation – and know that they can help me if I need it. The organisation has breadth and tremendous opportunities, and my country manager actively helped me develop and invested in me.”

But for Gina, it goes beyond her personal opportunities. What really motivates her are the ways in which ISS impacts others. And that has never been truer than during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have around 4,000 employees working in the healthcare segment in Singapore. They play an instrumental role in supporting healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 crisis by helping maintain hygiene, transferring patients safely, and maintaining buildings and facilities to ensure they operate well. Our people are exceptional in this area. We deploy infection control teams that are regularly trained, and they draw on experience from SARS and numerous pandemic simulations at healthcare institutions.”

She is not only inspired by the dedication of her colleagues but also by what ISS does for those colleagues.

“I am proud to work at ISS because it’s a people organisation. We provide a stable career and job for low-income workers, which in turn helps their families. And that keeps me motivated.”
