Mobile collaboration robots to automate cleaning tasks in canteens

Test 1

For the past four years, ISS has saved its client Atos – the French IT multinational – over £5 million per year in capital investment, rent, lease and energy costs. How? Through sensor technology, which monitors its use of space.

The partnership between ISS and Atos goes back to 2007, but it was in 2018 that advances in sensor technology and data management gave the facilities management company a way to improve the firm’s efficiency.

Sensors were fitted to the underside of desks at the company’s 28 core locations in the UK, collecting a dashboard of data on usage that can be viewed in real time or used to examine historical trends through monthly reports.

Using data to make buildings healthier

The sensors and related software, developed with Spica Technologies[SM1] , can monitor temperature, humidity, air quality and noise. This new information, says Mike Shanahan, Facilities Management Director at Atos, now “underpins our real estate strategy and decision making” and helps support the company’s ‘healthy building – healthy worker’ objective.

He adds: “The clarity of in-office display screens and ability to quickly analyse occupancy trends enables clear and precise data, supporting business case decisions relating to disposals, consolidations and acquisitions.” It also helps staff decide where they want to sit[SM2] .

The technology was particularly useful during the Covid-19 pandemic, when it was used to help create a safe working environment.
