ISS Wins New Schools Cleaning Contract with Victorian State Government

ISS Facility Services has won a major contract with the Victorian State Government to provide cleaning services to 214 public schools in Western and North Eastern Melbourne, under the government's new area-based model for school cleaning. Once mobilised, this will become one of the largest contracts in the ISS Pacific business.

A new zone-based approach for school cleaning is being introduced by the Victorian State Government in 2018. This model brings in outsourced cleaning service providers to deliver consistent and quality cleaning standards to Victorian schools.  ISS has won Area 5 (Western Melbourne) and Area 7 (North Eastern Melbourne) - two of the eight Melbourne regions the Department of Education & Training (DET) tendered as part of its ‘School Cleaning Reform Project’.

ISS is proud to add this account to our growing Australian education portfolio. Across the country, we provide cleaning and other facility management services to over 12 major universities, 56 TAFE’s and now over 1,100 schools. We have held a contract with the NSW Government since 1994, delivering cleaning services to hundreds of schools in South Western Sydney and areas of regional NSW. Our performance on this account demonstrated to the Victorian DET that we understood the requirements of the many stakeholders within their portfolio of schools.

ISS was also selected by DET due to our ethical employment practices. On this contract, ISS will directly employ all 500+ cleaning staff, ensuring a safe working environment and wages and statutory entitlements are paid in accordance with legal standards. Stuart Rose, Commercial Director for ISS Facility Services, comments: “We are strongly committed to the ideal that frontline employees who are appropriately trained, empowered and remunerated, will deliver the very best service to the end users of our customers – in this case the students and teaching staff at these Victorian public schools.  We pride ourselves on directly employing our workers, managing them professionally, and remunerating them fairly.

As we have with the NSW Government, ISS is looking forward to establishing an open, collaborative relationship with the Victorian State Government. ISS will provide a flexible, transparent service with a focus on providing a clean and safe premises for staff and students. We commit to training our staff to deliver excellent customer service, who in turn will create an environment which contributes to the learning outcomes for all Victorian school children.

Through a phased transition, ISS will commence services to most schools in our portfolio on 1st July 2018.
