ISS Sets the Standard in Labour Best Practice
ISS Facility Services and ISPT are proud to achieve the Cleaning Accountability Framework (CAF) certification at Wintergarden Shopping Mall in Queensland. Awarded in November 2017, this is the first retail site in Australia to obtain the 3-star certification, relecting ethical employment and responsible cleaning practices.
CAF is an independent, multi-stakeholder initiative that promotes the adoption of best practice throughout the cleaning supply chain by certifying sites and awarding star ratings. The three-star standard is an industry benchmark, independently verifying that a site’s industrial practices and working conditions are legally compliant.
Earlier this year, Property Owner ISPT partnered with CAF to pilot the Framework at three of its retail properties. ISS has been providing cleaning services at Wintergarden in Brisbane’s CBD since 2012 and we actively took part in the independent audit process, which included workplace meetings with our cleaners. ISS proved compliance in key areas including labour standards, taxation and superannuation, record keeping, WH&S, worker engagement and responsible contracting.
CAF CEO, Andrew Thackrah, comments: "CAF has been pleased to work with ISPT and ISS to certify Wintergarden shopping centre. Wintergarden is now the first retail site in Australia to be certified against the CAF three-star standard. We thank ISPT and ISS for their participation in this process and congratulate them on the outcome".
In an industry that sometimes exhibits irresponsible contracting, poor employment practices as well as unsustainable contract prices, CAF’s certification scheme recognises businesses, like ISS, that have implemented best-practice labour standards. ISS Executive General Manager – Specialised Services, Andrew Weaver, comments: “People are the heart of the ISS business and employee engagement is critical to our values. We pride ourselves on directly employing our workers, managing them professionally, renumerating them fairly and we have an excellent Industrial Relations record. The CAF certification is a great endorsement of our ethical employment practices”.
ISS a member of the CAF Steering Committee, providing advice on the tools used to implement the CAF star rating system and supporting take-up of CAF’s standards throughout the industry.
