In partnership with the Stroke Association, ISS won the award for ‘Best Scheme to Encourage Staff Fundraising; long term partners’ in the Better Society Awards ceremony which took place 2nd December 2021.

Now in their seventh year, the Better Society Awards shine a spotlight on commercial companies that create social value by driving a better, more equal, and sustainable world.

ISS was also shortlisted for a second award in the ‘Partnership With A Health Charity’ category, again for work with the Stroke Association. ISS and the Stroke Association have been in partnership for four years to develop fundraising, volunteering and awareness-raising initiatives. More recently, the collaboration has focused on providing virtual support for stroke survivors in response to Covid-19.

Jeremy Gould, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “A fabulous four years working with ISS UK, their commitment and drive for fundraising helps the Stroke Association to continue its amazing work rebuilding lives after stroke.”

Innovation & long-term support

ISS is the Stroke Association’s first corporate partner to develop a workplace training programme as part of the Stroke Association’s nationwide prevention campaign. ISS employees volunteered to be Stroke Prevention ‘Ambassadors’ and were trained to run ‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ sessions across the ISS organisation for onsite teams, to increase awareness and promote health and wellbeing.

Valuable support is also provided to run the ‘Stroke Clubs’. These community groups are established by stroke survivors to deliver vital long-term support for other stroke survivors, their families and carers. In addition to financial support, our people – from frontline colleagues to C-Level executives – have volunteered their time to support Stroke Clubs.

Overcoming social distancing

With the impact of Covid-19, ISS has supported the Stroke Association with their ‘Here for You’ programme of newly created telephone support services. The phone service was established to support those affected by stroke, whereby volunteers are matched with a stroke survivor who is at risk of feeling isolated.

Ben Bolt, Corporate Responsibility Business Partner for ISS UK & Ireland concluded, "In the final months of our partnership with the Stroke Association, we’re delighted to be recognised for our collaboration over the years by this award by Better Society. We thank everybody who has helped us deliver a lasting impact to so many stroke survivors.”
