Supporting ISS employees through Covid-19

We all find ourselves in unprecedented and worrying times.

Our frontline services and national resources are being tested like never before and we are so proud of our many ISS colleagues who continue to work in key industries and roles to support the country in its hour of need. We are truly touched and humbled by the feedback we are receiving from ISS managers, our clients and medical teams on the passion and selflessness that our people are showing.

Indeed, yesterday in Prime Minister’s Questions, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn paid tribute to cleaners in particular:

“I agree with him (Jeremy Corbyn) very much about what he said about cleaners, they do an extraordinary job and they deserve all the protection and support we can give them in this difficult time.”

Many of our people find that their normal place of work is closed, or are unable to work and are understandably worried about what this means for them. Many colleagues have shown a willingness to work at other critical sites that remain open and their passion to help others has been truly touching.

Our people and the services they deliver are critical to our nation and it is more important than ever that we support them through this worrying time.

Each ISS employee has very different circumstances and we have therefore been working closely with Government, clients, industry and employee bodies to come up with options that ensure our duty of care to our employees is upheld through the various options that are available.

We are pleased to announce that ISS will access the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (also referred to as ‘Furlough’) to give colleagues whose site is closed two options:

·          to be seconded to a key site to work there, or

·          to stay home and becoming classified as a ‘furloughed worker’. This would mean that a qualifying employee is kept on our payroll, rather than being laid off. Employees who are ‘furloughed’ by ISS will not be able to undertake work elsewhere.

A company-wide communications cascade is underway to help our people to understand the options and support available to them, including the setting up of a dedicated Job Retention Scheme Helpline and a re-deployment portal. A short guide can be read here

The Health, Safety and Welfare of our people is always our number one priority and for colleagues who continue to work at key sites, our dedicated Covid-19 Taskforce has embedded enhanced Health and Safety protocols across all our contracts to ensure our employees and the people they serve are protected.

It just remains for us to express our gratitude again to all the UK’s key workers, and to our amazing ISS employees who support them, for your ongoing dedication and patience in these extraordinary times. We are so proud of you all.
