ISS awarded large Defence contract to deliver Living and Working Services across South Australia and Western Australia
ISS, a leading global workplace experience and facility services company, has been awarded a six- year contract by the Australian Department of Defence, valued at over $70 million annually. The contract will commence in February, 2026 and includes two extension options of between one and three years up to a maximum of 10 years.

Under the new Base Services contract, ISS will deliver a broad range of integrated facility services across 85 locations in both South Australia and Western Australia. These include accommodation management, cleaning, catering, transport, fitness centre operations, laundry and dry cleaning, and pest control. The services will sustain Defence’s living, working and training environments, enabling personnel to focus on their mission of protecting Australia and its national interests.
More than 450 ISS Placemakers will deliver services under the contract, with 98 per cent provided through self-delivery. Many of these locations are embedded in regional communities, where ISS is committed to creating opportunities for Indigenous Australians, veterans, ADF families, and local small and medium enterprises.
Stuart Rose, CEO ISS Australia & New Zealand, said the award marks an important milestone for ISS as a new supplier to Defence. “We are incredibly proud to join Defence as a base services partner. Our people are committed to delivering high-quality, responsive services that enhance the health, wellbeing and readiness of Defence personnel. This contract is a significant achievement for ISS, and we look forward to working alongside Defence in a true ‘team of teams’ environment.”
As part of the service delivery, ISS will also implement digital and operational innovations to optimise efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness. These initiatives will ensure Defence personnel have access to safe, secure, and well-maintained facilities while supporting Defence’s sustainable environmental management outcomes.
With global expertise, including Defence Sector contracts in Europe and strong local connections, ISS is proud to serve those who serve, helping sustain the Australian Defence estate today by ensuring facilities remain safe, secure, and fit for purpose.
