ISS Ireland supporting Barnardos
ISS Ireland supports Barnardos through a variety of charity initiatives raising over €20,000 in 2017
Barnardos, established in Ireland in 1962 is a children's charity working with vulnerable children and their families. They offer support services to children of all ages promoting their emotional and educational development.
The ISS Ireland team had a busy year contributing to the Barnardo’s cause during 2017. We have been involved with the charity for over 10 years and the successful partnership has grown enormously during this time.
During 2017 there were several bespoke events incorporated into the ISS calendar where our Head Office, regional offices, and many site teams across the country played their part. The Go-Green coffee morning and bake sale held in March was very generously supported while everyone enjoyed taking time out to catch up as they enjoyed lots of scrumptious treats! The next big event was held in June where members of the site teams took part in some healthy rivalry at the Barnardo’s’ golf outing on a day that coincided with our Back to the Floor, where senior management rolled up their sleeves on the frontline.
There were many other contributions during the year including three members of the ISS Ireland team, Eric Doyle (Managing Director), Sean McAuliffe, (Specialised Services Director) and Kevin Redmond, (Workspace Manager-EY) raising funds by participating in a gruelling Ironman competition. We were also involved in Buckets for Barnardos, bag packing, book sales and more!
In October, a huge difference was made to one family of seven, when a group of enthusiastic ISS volunteers transformed a home in desperate need of some renovation. The last big push of 2017 was the Christmas Gift Appeal where 60 children who may not have otherwise received, were given a gift, thoughtfully chosen by generous ISS employees.
We were honoured to have Fergus Finlay (CEO of Barnardo’s Ireland) in attendance at the recent GEM Awards held in Dublin. Fergus paid tribute to ISS Ireland and particularly to Rachel Hynes (Business Unit Manager, Healthcare and Education) who has been instrumental in building a solid relationship between Barnardo’s and ISS over the last 10 years. Fergus stated that with ISS’s efforts, Barnardos can put full time resources into helping struggling children who so desperately need our support. He spoke of how through the support there are children who will undertake their Leaving Certificate who would not otherwise have done so. Fergus thanked ISS for their awareness and involvement in the various fundraising initiatives and for making a difference.
“Thank you for teaching us how to do things well, thank you to all, and the GEMs among you, you work for a ‘GEM’ of a company”.
These combined efforts resulted in over €20,000 being donated to this wonderful cause last year. Everyone at ISS Ireland should be proud of our fantastic achievements in helping those less fortunate!
