ISS EastPoint Properties Limited welcomes judge led independent committee into Wang Fuk Court fire

ISS EastPoint Properties Limited (ISS EPPL) welcomes the Chief Executive’s decision to establish a judge-led independent committee into the Wang Fuk Court fire disaster. The company is already engaged with relevant authorities and will continue to cooperate fully with the inquiry, including providing information and assistance.
ISS EPPL again extends our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Wang Fuk Court fires, and our heartfelt sympathies to all who were injured or otherwise affected by this terrible tragedy. ISS EPPL is also deeply grateful to the firefighters and rescue workers for their courage and tireless work. We are providing support to help residents involved through this difficult time, including delivering provisions and supplies to affected residents at the temporary shelters.

ISS EPPL would like to make the following clarifications on its role and responsibilities at Wang Fuk Court:

ISS EPPL, as property manager, provides administrative support for the Incorporated Owners’ (IO), including arranging for services to be carried out by third-parties which are assessed, selected and appointed by the IO. ISS EPPL also manages the day-to-day security services on-site.

With regards to the major renovation work at Wang Fuk Court, ISS EPPL was not involved in the appointment of the contractor, and was not responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the renovation work; that responsibility rests with the appointed professional consultant and the registered construction contractor.

Tendering of the major renovation of Wang Fuk Court was conducted under the IO’s procedures on an authorized e‑tendering platform, with full transparency. The extent of ISS EPPL’s involvement in the tendering process was administrative – it did not extend to making recommendations or the decision-making process. Furthermore, tender notices, scopes, opening records and awards were accessible at any time, to the IO and any residents who were registered to access the system. Bids were evaluated by the IO’s appointed professional consultant and awards approved by the IO. Established tendering procedures were also used for the IO’s appointment of a licensed registered contractor for maintenance of fire safety equipment in common areas.

ISS EPPL is hugely thankful to our frontline colleagues for their swift actions during the incident to help residents and support emergency responders. Our focus now is continuing to support those affected and ensuring authorities have the information they need. We won’t speculate on unverified details and will share confirmed updates in coordination with the relevant authorities, when appropriate.
