Sights set high at ISS

DE_2019_DTAG_Technical_July_19 (1)

Mareike Nieden has been part of the ISS team since 2019. As a test engineer, she is responsible for ensuring that we are supplied with mobile data, broadcast and television around the clock.

"I love the variety that my daily work brings with it. Climbing the broadcast mast is real teamwork every time," explains the 36-year-old.

Both ISS test engineers and ISS service technicians in the field of broadcast have their sights set high: from the systematic inspection of antenna masts for structural defects to interference suppression and repair work. "At ISS, I have the freedom to work and make decisions independently. Whether on the ground or 80 metres in the air, I enjoy taking on new challenges in order to develop myself further.”

In Germany there are about 32,000 broadcast sites owned by Deutsche Funkturm, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. Working closely together, ISS test engineers and service technicians ensure that these broadcast sites are well-functioning and maintained – an increasingly essential task during the COVID-19 crisis.

"With our work, we are helping to ensure that many people in Germany can continue their work despite the corona pandemic. In pandemic times, personal exchange from a distance is particularly important, whether privately or professionally. I am proud to ensure with my daily work that we remain networked and connected even in this extraordinary situation".

I love the variety that my daily work brings with it. Climbing the broadcast mast is real teamwork every time.
