ISS purchasing manager en route to Rio 2016 Paralympic Games

ISS purchasing manager en route to Rio 2016 Paralympic Games

Balancing his passion for work and sport, Alberto Seoane, purchasing manager of ISS Spain, has reached the Worldwide Top 10 in table tennis for persons with disabilities and has qualified for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.

After the last scoring tournament held in Costa Rica, Alberto won a place in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, taking him one step closer to realising his dream of winning a medal at this event.

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games will be held from 7-18 September, 2016. Around 4,350 athletes from more than 160 countries are expected to compete for 526 medal events in 22 different sports.

Balancing work and sport
Alberto’s profile at the International Federation reads very impressive. “But it has taken a lot of effort, sacrifice and prioritisation with structured and rigid schedules over the past few years,” said Alberto Seoane.
“ISS has played a huge part in supporting me in my endeavour. They offered me the facilities and a flexible schedule with my work, so I could practice and have my days off to attend the championships whenever required. My manager, Juan Leon, and the director of the division of catering, Rosalia, have supported me at every possible step. I am grateful and thankful to my colleagues, Sandra and Anna, who showed great teamwork to take care of some of the urgent work while I was away at competitions”, he said.

Alberto is the purchasing manager in the catering division in ISS Spain. Part of his responsibilities, among other things include working with suppliers to get the best possible prices for ISS’ customers.

Turning dreams into reality
Alberto Seoane began playing table tennis at the age of 15 in the city of A Coruña in Spain, and moved to the High Performance Sports Centre in Sant Cugat del Vallés in 2011. After training from Monday through Friday and balancing the sport and his work as Purchasing Manager at ISS, he has managed to reach the Top 10 in the world in table tennis for persons with disabilities.

Alberto Seoane said: “I had dreamt about this since my childhood, when I started playing, it seemed like a distant dream and very ambitious, but when I arrived to train at the High Performance Centre in Barcelona that distant dream became an achievable goal. I have achieved my goal of going to the Paralympics, but it is now my dream to win a medal.”

A typical day for Alberto begins with an early morning workout followed by his day job at ISS and concludes with a training session in the evening. It is a lot hours of sweat and training combined with his work at ISS, but Alberto is enjoying every moment of his life. With all that perseverance and hard work, the entire ISS family is behind Alberto as he prepares for Rio 2016.
