ISS and Danish Red Cross provide relief for disadvantaged families

ISS Denmark has just finished its fifth annual ISS Holiday Camp. The tradition consists of volunteers from ISS and Danish Red Cross providing families with an unforgettable stay with lots of enjoyable activities, support, and new friendships.
Being able to enjoy a summer holiday is not a reality for an increasing number of children in Denmark. In recent years, the amount of disadvantaged children living under conditions where they are not thriving is increasing. Since there is a need for additional measures for these children and their families, ISS Denmark has once again arranged the ISS Holiday Camp in collaboration with Danish Red Cross. ISS provides disadvantaged children and their families with a break from their ordinary lives, in addition to giving them the opportunity for enjoyable experiences with other families with children.

Disadvantaged families have a need for enjoyable experiences
The participants consist of both disadvantaged and vulnerable families with children, ISS families and volunteers. During the three days, the programme featured various activities and entertainment with everything from a twist bread barbecue to waterslides, games, songs and various surprises. The objective is to provide disadvantaged families with a much-needed holiday experience, while at the same time, giving them the opportunity to build relationships and personal as well as professional networks.

Important to ISS
The rising number of disadvantaged children in Denmark makes it increasingly important to support the efforts of the Red Cross.

Country Manager of ISS Denmark, Martin Gaarn Thomsen, said:
– We have several years of experience in creating a diverse workplace. We see opportunities in every individual and we hope that ISS’ wide range of staff can serve as role models for those who participate in the camp. The partnership with Danish Red Cross means that we can jointly take part in improving the conditions for those who need our help, both in Denmark and abroad.

Danish Red Cross: ISS initiative is amazing
Danish Red Cross is very pleased with ISS’ volunteer work and wishes that more organisations would take the initiative to reach even more disadvantaged families.

Anders Ladekarl, Secretary General of the Danish Red Cross, said:
– ISS’ initiative and the fact that they support our work is fantastic. My hope is that more organisations will follow ISS’ example and support our work, as it would allow us to help even more people.
