In Mexico ISS connects employees through social intranet
To increase employee engagement, improve access to vital information and break down communication silos, ISS Mexico has built a vibrant social intranet.

In large organizations employees in satellite offices may feel disconnected from headquarters, not knowing who to ask for critical company updates and changes to business processes.

ISS Mexico wanted to address communication challenges by providing an intranet that puts people at the center of the experience. Unlike past attempts at intranets, they didn’t want a static site, requiring IT development time and resources to update.

Meanwhile, ISS Mexico executives observed how employees could easily interact with each other over Facebook and other consumer social networking technologies. So they turned to providers of social intranet solutions, Socialtext. The solution chosen by ISS Mexico integrates the features we know from Facebook (personal profiles with dashboards), Twitter (micro blogging) and wikis (web-based documents) on the intranet.

– On Facebook, you see your friend's updates; on Socialtext, you see your work updates from colleagues. Once our employees saw that, they immediately saw the value and began engaging with the Socialtext platform quickly and easily, said Claus Madsen, Country Manager at ISS Mexico.

In order to ensure the social intranet’s success, Erick Vera, Social Media Manager at ISS Mexico, knew it needed to be a place where people would be central to the experience. At the same Erick and his team were aware that the long term success of the intranet would hinge on mapping it to key business processes. This way, it would never become just ‘an extra thing for employees to check’, but a crucial work tool they would rely on to collaborate and execute their day-to-day jobs.

– Everyone feels more connected. This new social intranet is allowing us to work as a team towards our goals and serve customers more efficiently, said Erick Vera.

Claus Madsen adds:
