While Ormen Lange, Norway’s largest gas project
ever, is being developed, up to 2,200 Hydro employees will live and work off a
large camp in Nyhamna, where the gas will be processed. Last week, ISS
subsidiary, Serveringspartner AS signed a deal with Hydro to run the employee
facilities in Nyhamna for an expected three-year-period. The contract commences
in December 2004, and it has a value of NOK 250m.
Serveringspartner will manage the camp as a quasi hotel, delivering catering,
cleaning, and welfare services. The offer also includes management of a kiosk
and a pub in the camp.
The camp will be established gradually. When in full operation, 130-140
employees from Serveringspartner are expected to work at the camp.
The Ormen Lange field is located in the Norwegian Sea, 100 kilometres north
west of the coast of Møre, Mid-Norway. It is Norway’s largest gas field. When it
reaches full production the field will meet 20 percent of the UK demand for gas.
