From 17 to 22 August 2005, Amsterdam will be the home port for
SAIL 2005, one of the largest maritime events in the world. Behind the scenes,
ISS Cleaning Services will be working virtually around the clock.
2.5 million visitors
As in 2000, the organisation
expects around 2.5 million visitors only for the event, a gigantic number
considering that Amsterdam has 735,000 inhabitants. ISS Cleaning Services is
involved in ensuring that all these visitors can enjoy SAIL in a clean
environment.
Ronald Boesjes, Commercial Director of ISS Facility Services
in the Netherlands is directing the ISS activities at SAIL for the third time:
“We must continually take unpredictable factors into account. One of them is the
weather. In August there is always a risk of a severe thunderstorm, with all the
consequences that this can entail. Besides this, such a long event requires a
lot of effort and motivation from all employees. But my experience is that this
motivation arises automatically.”
Not just supplier but
supporter
That ISS Cleaning Services have experience with SAIL is
reassuring for director Bart Meyers. He might be a skilled yachtsman, but this
is the first time he organises SAIL. Meyers: ”I’m pleased with ISS. Not only
because they have a lot of experience, but also because they provide financial
support to SAIL 2005 and thus demonstrate their commitment. That’s why we don’t
call them a supplier, but a supporter of SAIL 2005.”
