As the new man at the helm in 1995, Waldemar
Schmidt was painfully aware of this. The future
of the ISS Group depended on his ability to stand
firm in the face of the major challenges. Among
them the crisis in the USA - that loomed in the
mid-1990s. In previous years, ISS had experienced
large-scale management reshuffling. Now the focus
had to be firmly on the business itself and on
