1993-2000

The ultimate test

"The ability to do the right thing in a stressful situation is what defines a company's strength and core value."

As the new man at the helm in 1995, Waldemar Schmidt was painfully aware of this. The future of the ISS Group depended on his ability to stand firm in the face of the major challenges. Among them the crisis in the USA - that loomed in the mid-1990s. In previous years, ISS had experienced large-scale management reshuffling. Now the focus had to be firmly on the business itself and on core competences.

"A great earthquake" was how Chairman of the Board Arne Madsen described the scandal in the USA, which sent shockwaves throughout ISS.
