Time studies and rationalisation
In 1955 the firm established the so-called Development
Department. The objective was to reduce working time
without lowering cleaning standards. One of the most
popular methods was the time study. Not surprisingly,
the new department quickly concluded that in general
too much time was allocated in the old contracts. The
department studied the working methods, measured the
time spent and developed new guidelines for the workers.
Rationalisation also meant using machines to facilitate
the work. The firm's own engineering shop developed
and manufactured all cleaning equipment ranging from
cleaning carts to polishers. At the firm's laboratory
efforts were made to find the right detergents that
were efficient, but not as rough on furniture and hands.
The firm began manufacturing its own detergents under
the name of Purgatex.
