ISS UK wins the Green Award at Educatering Awards for Excellence

Mark Davies, divisional director of ISS Facility Services Education in UK, has been awarded the Green Award at this year’s Educatering Excellence Awards.
Held this year at the Royal Garden Hotel in London, the Educatering Excellence Awards are designed to celebrate individuals, organisations and schools who have been making a difference in the school meals industry.
ISS FS Education in UK was recognised for taking big steps to support awareness of healthy and sustainable living in schools. The Green Award focuses on organisations where economic, environmental and sustainability factors have been strongly considered in all aspects of the day to day running of the business.

The division of facility services provider, ISS UK, proudly provides Food for Life Catering Mark accredited menus to 278 schools across the UK. They are continually working with the Soil Association to improve the way they support local suppliers and reduce food miles.

They have worked with charity, School Food Matters, to provide gardening grants to the schools they serve in the London boroughs of Richmond and Southwark. These have already been put to good use, with several schools purchasing materials such as seeds, soil, mulch, watering cans, hand trowels and greenhouses.

In addition, ISS FS Education has invested in the help of TV gardener, Chris Collins, to help encourage pupils to develop an interest in where their food comes from and to learn how to grow their own fruits and vegetables. Chris has also held training days for pupils and teachers where he has shown them how they can develop their school gardens.

Mark Davies commented:
– We are delighted to have been awarded Educatering’s Green Award at this year’s ceremony. It’s been a really exciting past twelve months for us in which we have endeavoured to support schools in developing a whole school approach to food and learning. We’ve learnt a lot from our friends at Food for Life, School Food Matters and Chris Collins, and hope that the teachers, pupils and parents have too.

As well as this recent award, ISS FS Education has been recognised by both the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) and Footprint organisations for promoting and supporting a greener culture in schools. They were recently awarded the Change4Life Award at the LACA Awards for Excellence in July and were runners up in two categories, Sustainable Sourcing and Economic Sustainability, at the Footprint Awards, which were held in May.
