ISS India provides work training for 8,000 young people
ISS India has tied up with the Ministry of Rural Development in India to provide work training for elementary and high school drop-outs and candidates from industrial training institutes.

07-07-2011

The cooperation between ISS India and the Ministry of Rural Development is part of a series of initiatives to create more jobs in the organized sector in India.

– We are planning to train about 8,000 young people at the district level across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujaret and Orissa, said Jolly Kochery, Country Manager of ISS India.

He continued:

– We want to invest about Rs six crore to Rs eight crore (1.4-1.8 million US dollars) in this initiative in the next year alone. We have a big challenge finding people, orienting and retaining them for services such as cleaning and facility management. We are hoping this work training initiative will help us overcome this challenge.

While the organized sector in India is experiencing a shortage of skilled labour, the demand for the services provided by these work-trained people is fast increasing – especially among enterprises in the large cities. Outsourced facility services are fast gaining traction beyond IT, ITES (Information Technology Enabled Service) and multinational companies present in India. In addition, domestic companies have slowly started to outsource facility management to third-party vendors.

– Outsourcing is no longer just about IT and BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) work, Facility Management is becoming a major outsourcing opportunity. The sector is dominated by unorganised players with over 70 per cent market share but companies are fast realising the need to outsource non-core activities to specialists due to issues including labour shortage, Jolly Kochery stated.
