ISS India helps keep the planet green
In ISS companies around the world initiatives are being launched to help reduce our environmental impact and keep the planet green. ISS India does their part to support this approach.
This year, the World Environment Day (WED) was held in India. WED is a part of the United Nations’ Environment Program and aims to be the biggest global day for positive environmental action. WED activities take place all year round but peak on 5 June every year, involving companies, organizations and individual citizens around the world.
In connection with the World Environment Day this year, ISS India’s local office in Chennai (formerly known as Madras) conducted an awareness program on the use of plastic called ‘Gyaan Gu Sa’ (meaning ‘Green Planet’). It is an awareness initiative among the public on reducing the usage of plastics and help make the environment healthy. ISS employees in Chennai also pitched in and helped clean the well-known and often crowded beach ‘Eliots’ in Chennai.
At the ISS office in Lonavla in the western part of India, awareness and a massive cleaning effort was conducted at the view point ‘Lions Point’ Lonavla, Maharashtra, near Mumbai by the ISS employees and others like Amby Valley, Air force, Municipal Corporation and different NGO’s. As ‘Lions Point’ is a prominent tourist location lots of unwanted waste materials, plastic covers, water pet bottles etc. are thrown in open areas, on road sides and around small shops.
The ISS employees together with the other volunteers cleaned the entire area around ‘Lions Point’ and the huge effort was highly appreciated by the locals.
