ISS Australia supports employment of Indigenous Australians
In cooperation with the Australian Government and major Indigenous organisations around Australia, ISS Australia supports Indigenous people by, among other things, providing jobs.
In 2010 a new era of cooperation between ISS Australia, the Australian Government and major Indigenous organisations around Australia has begun. ISS has become a consistent leader in the employment and training of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
ISS is committed to providing real jobs to Indigenous people which is the main philosophy behind the success of the ISS Indigenous Employment and Training program. To achieve this outcome ISS has developed close business arrangements with some of Australia’s leading Indigenous associations, some of these being:
| |
- 'The Australian Employment Covenant' (AEC) is an initiative aimed at securing 50,000 sustainable jobs for Indigenous Australians. Backed by a three-way commitment between Australian Employers, the Australian Government and Indigenous people, ISS is an active member of this organisation and pledged 50 jobs to this initiative. ISS achieved the target of 50 jobs and has increased with an additional 20 jobs.
- ISS is an active and supportive member of the 'GenerationOne' movement, which is dedicated to the elimination of poverty and disadvantage to all Indigenous Australians.
- ISS also has strong partnerships with Job Service providers such as 'IPA personnel', 'Mission Australia' and 'the Salvation Army'. The job service providers assist in developing support employment programs and provision of job ready Indigenous Australians to ISS. |
ISS also takes an active role in Indigenous cultural and educational events. Recently ISS was invited by the Australian Government to participate in a selective employer forum to identify ways of removing barriers to employment in the Resources and Mining Sector.
ISS invests heavily into this program annually via memberships, education seminars and wider area community support programs. With the implementation of three additional employment and training projects around Australia, ISS will see employment numbers increase to over 200 Indigenous Australians by the end of 2010.
