Employees and customers in Chile re-establishing after huge earthquake
Hundreds of ISS employees and several customers in Chile continue to re-establish their lives after the fifth largest earthquake in history a few months ago.
A total of 600 ISS employees (with families) affected by the earthquake and subsequent tsunamis received much needed support through donations from ISS Group, plus colleagues in Spain and Chile. The money was used to buy 20 emergency houses, 70 construction material vouchers, mattresses, stoves, kitchens, food, water and first-aid kits.
The situation for the worst affected ISS employees and customers has stabilised and some kind of normality is emerging. Only a few employees in the south of Chile, the hardest hit area, have not returned to work. About eight customers are not back in operation either because of extensive damages to their premises.
“In general, things are being re-established as best as possible, but business wise we will continue to see an impact from lost revenue and uncompensated operational costs for the next few months,” says Miguel Galmes, ISS Country Manager in Chile. “Meanwhile, we are investigating interesting business opportunities emerging from the re-construction phase.”
The earthquake, which hit Chile on February 27, measured 8.8 on the Richter scale and claimed the lives of 486 people and affected in total about 2 million.
