The service profit chain was conceived by a group of Harvard professors to describe how some service companies consistently manage to outperform their peers. The extensive research of Heskett, Sasser and Schlesinger suggests that there are very strong relationships between

1) profit and customer loyalty

2) employee loyalty and customer loyalty an

3) employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction.

In other words financial performance is strongly linked to employee satisfaction and loyalty.
