ISS took a pioneering step in employee dialogue and consultation in 1995 signing an agreement with national unions on the establishment of a European Works Council (EWC).
The ISS EWC was the first in the service sector, and it was established well ahead of EU requirements, with the assistance of the international union FIET (today UNI).
The EWC serves the purpose of stimulating dialogue between the ISS management and employee representatives from across Europe. Management and Employee representatives have a common interest in discussing how ISS can ensure the best working conditions while improving competitiveness.
The annual meeting of the ISS management and 35 employee representatives typically involve issues such as
- Update on corporate strategy, financials etc. by the CEO and CFO
- Exchange of good practice in training and social matters
- Questions to Management
The Human Capital Director, Helle Havgaard, handles the daily management of the EWC in co-operation with a Committee consisting of 3 employee-representatives
Our co-operation with UNI has extended beyond its original European dimension. Today, ISS involves UNI in discussions of global labour issues.
