Therefore, ISS has defined 11 key focus areas in the company's international HR standards. The goal is that by the end of 2009, all countries will be in full compliance with the ISS International HR Standards. Among the focus areas is health and safety.

• ISS demands that employees perform their work free from the influence of illicit drugs or alcohol. 
  
• ISS examines equipment, methods, products and services in order to ensure the health and safety of its employees and others who may be affected by its activities.
  
• ISS takes all reasonably practical steps to prevent accidents and keep records of incidents in order to learn from them.
  
• ISS will not require anyone to work if there is an unacceptable and actual risk of injury or damage to health.
  

Furthermore, ISS service delivery will meet agreed standards for quality, health and safety at customer sites, and ISS ensures proper working conditions for its employees, including appropriate health and safety standards.
